2021-013 - Acknowledging Results of Prior Council Action Declaring Candidates Canvassing the Election for District 4

RESOLUTION NO. 2021-013 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, ACKNOWLEDGING THE RESULTS OF PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION DECLARING CANDIDATES AS ELECTED TO OFFICE FOR COUNCIL DISTRICTS 5 AND 7, AS A RESULT OF HAVING BEEN UNOPPOSED FOR ELECTION TO OFFICE; DECLARING CANDIDATES FOR COUNCIL DISTRICTS 4, 5, AND 7 ELECTED TO OFFICE; DECLARING THE TERMS OF OFFICE FOR THE AFORESAID CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas, did heretofore, on the 25th day of January, 2021, by Resolution No. 2021-001, order the regular municipal election for the City of Paris to be held on the 1st day of May, 2 02 1, by the qualified voters in Districts 4, 5, and 7 of the City of Paris, for the purpose of electing City Council Members from said Districts; and, WHEREAS, on February 22, 2021, the City Clerk, being the authority responsible for having the official ballot prepared, certified, in writing, that the candidates for election as City Council Members for Districts 5 and 7 were unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that there were no propositions to appear on the ballot; and, WHEREAS, on February 22, 2021, the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas, by Ordinance No. 2021-005 did, pursuant to the authority granted in the Texas Election Code Section 2.053, deem it appropriate that the candidates for election as City Council Members for Districts 5 and 7 be declared elected to office and that no election should be held in those Districts; and, WHEREAS, on May 1, 2021, a General Election was held in the City of Paris for the purpose of electing one Council Member to District 4; and WHEREAS, a total of 205 votes were cast, with James O'Bryan receiving a total of 79 votes and Mihir "Mark" Pankaj receiving a total of 126 votes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the City Council hereby declares the candidate for District 4, the same being Mihir "Mark" Pankaj; the candidate for District 5, the same being Linda Su Knox; and the candidate for District 7, the same being Paula Portugal; are declared elected
