Item No. 15 <br />TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council <br />Grayson Path, City Manager <br />FROM: Richard Salter, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: MVPCA GRANT APPLICATION FOR FY 2021-2022 <br />DATE: June 28, 2021 <br />BACKGROUND: The City of Paris began the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force with the <br />assistance of the Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority in September 1994. Since that <br />time, the City of Paris Police Department application has been approved for 27 consecutive years. <br />ABPTA changed their name in 2019 to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. There are <br />two Paris Police detectives assigned to the Task Force paid for by this grant. These officers are <br />allowed to investigate auto thefts and burglaries in a number of counties in the Northeast Texas <br />area. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: The MVPCA is taking applications for grants for the next fiscal year. The <br />total amount for the grant for 2021-2022 is $190,806.00 including a cash match of $39,752.00 <br />from the city. We ask for Council to approve the application for the grant and authorize the <br />manager to complete certain documents. The MVPCA requires a resolution from the governing <br />body for the grant application <br />BUDGET: The grant application will require a $39,752.00 cash match in the 2021-2022 police <br />department budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve a resolution authorizing the application of the grant <br />to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority for the continuation of the Northeast Texas Auto <br />Theft Task Force and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. <br />
