We have attempted to locate the nearest landfills to the City of Paris. Hours are based on Google
Map which reflects speed limits and slowdowns along the way.
Using the above information, we can develop some estimate figures for what it might cost the
City operationally to use a different landfill. It is very important that when looking at operation,
you have to consider 1) increase in operation cost separate and apart from the landfill dumping
fee, but also 2) impact to physical operation and manpower. As we all know, the City of Paris -
and most any trash hauling entity - struggles to find and keep staff. This tends to be one of the
least desirable jobs for most people due to smell, weather conditions, physical requirements,
compensation and hours. We have recently made some great changes to our operations that has
allowed our staff the opportunity to get home sooner every day and the upcoming comparable
pay study changes will help with the compensation. Prior to the recent changes in operational
time, it was common for trash crews to work 10-12 hour days hauling trash. This is not only
exhausting, but it has a significant quality of life impact. Bottom line, if our crews need to travel
further each day to unload their trash, their days are going to get longer and we will start losing
employees faster. To help illustrate some of this, we have created the following table of
comparisons.
