RESOLUTION NO. 2022-018 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS <br />RATIFYING THE APPOINTMENT OF SHATARA "SHA" MOORE TO FILL THE <br />CITY COUNCIL VACANCY IN DISTRICT ONE AND TO SERVE AS COUNCIL <br />PERSON FOR DISTRICT ONE UNTIL COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE SEATED <br />AFTER THE MAY 2022 ELECTION; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, on February 18, Council Member Renae Stone resigned from her Council <br />Seat in District 1; and, <br />WHEREAS, Ms. Stone's term was due to expire in May of 2022; and <br />WHEREAS, there Ms. Stone's resignation created a vacancy on the membership of the <br />City Council of the City of Paris in District No. 1; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Home Rule Charter of the City of Paris, Texas provides, in Section 20 <br />thereof, that a vacancy in the Council shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining <br />members of the Council by the selection of a person possessing the qualifications required <br />by said Charter and by state law; and <br />WHEREAS, one candidate applied for the appointment to the Council Seat for District <br />1; and <br />WHEREAS, after considering the qualifications of the candidate, on February 28, <br />2022, the City Council found it to be in the best interest of the people of District 1 and of the <br />city as a whole to appoint Shatara "Sha" Moore to serve out the District 1 seat's unexpired <br />term ending in May of 2022; and <br />WHEREAS, by this Resolution, the City Council ratifies said appointment; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS, THAT: <br />Section 1. The findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br />Section 2. That the appointment of Shatara "Sha" Moore as Council Member for <br />District 1, and as such is a member of the City Council of the City of Paris to serve until Council <br />Members are seated in May of 2022, is hereby ratified. <br />Section 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon passage. <br />
