Item No. 15
ril
TO: Mayor
Mayor Pro Tem
City Council
FROM: Robert G. Vine, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Lake Crook Boat Ramp Construction
DATE: October 24, 2022
BACKGROUND:
In March of 2022, staff inspected the southern boat ramp at Lake Crook after receiving citizen
complaints about the condition of the structure. This inspection revealed large holes and several
large cracks in the concrete ramp where the structure was breaking apart. The holes and the broken
parts of the ramp made it difficult and unsafe for boaters to use the ramp to load and unload boats
without risking damage to boats or trailers and created a potential liable situation for the city.
The staff and Lamar County Chamber of Commerce have worked together with the Southern Drag
Boat Association and local boaters to design a replacement ramp that would be conducive for the
drag boats that race here every summer, as well as, for use by leisure boaters and those who use
Lake Crook for fishing.
STATUS OF ISSUE:
Staff constructed an earthen dam across the mouth of the cove to allow the existing boat ramp area
to dry in preparation for this project. While the dam is in place, staff is cleaning, deepening and
widening the cove.
Staff sought bids for this project in accordance with procurement policy and law. The scope of
work for this project includes the tear -out and replacement of the existing boat ramp and ramp
approach, parking lot improvements and removal of the earthen dam. The City received one sealed
bid from Pridemore Construction of $88,490.00.
