RESOLUTION NO. 84 -089 <br />WHEREAS, A. M. Aikin, Jr., dedicated his life to the <br />general welfare of the State of Texas, and particularly to <br />this portion of the State during the several decades he <br />served as a member of the State Legislature; and, <br />WHEREAS, the said A. M. Aikin, Jr., actively and <br />aggressively supported education and sought out solutions <br />which contributed toward the improvement of the area thereby <br />greatly benefiting the residents of the City of Paris; and, <br />WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that A. M. Aikin, <br />Jr., be long remembered for his honorable public service; <br />NOW THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED that as a gesture of appreciation on the <br />part of the City of Paris, State Highway 24 through the city <br />limits of Paris, Texas, be named A. M. Aikin, Jr. Boulevard; <br />and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate ceremonies <br />attending the naming of the highway be planned to take place <br />as early as possible; and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that special efforts will be <br />made to obtain favor from the Texas Department of Highways <br />and Transportation Board of Commissioners towards the naming <br />of the remaining section of Highway 24 from Paris to <br />Commerce, Texas, and Highway 50 from I -30 to Commerce, <br />Texas, as A. M. Aikin, Jr. Memorial Highway; and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of <br />Paris, Texas, ,Toe Graham, be authorized and he is hereby <br />authorized to execute this Resolution; and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk, H. C. <br />Greene, be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to <br />furnish certified copies of this Resolution to the Texas <br />Department of Highways and Transportation Board of <br />Commissioners and to other official boards along the route <br />with request that a united effort be recorded on this <br />action. <br />Passed and adopted on this 10th day of December, 1984. <br />o ra am, ayor <br />ATTEST: <br />H.
