297 <br /> <br /> President Fendley asked Mr. Vest to make his report. Mr. Vest discussed the <br /> responses received since the last meeting. He stated that he had met with <br /> Senator Sibley's staff and worked on the reporting form for all the economic <br /> development sales tax cities. He stated that they have a good draft form which <br /> should be out shortly. He said that in connection with the BITCO building <br /> Nations Bank has hired an auction and sales company. He said that a sale date <br />__ of September 3, 1997, has been set for the public auction on all equipment. Mr. <br /> Vest said that he had met with Texas A & M Commerce Industrial and Engineering <br /> Technology Department concerning the development of a technology transfer <br /> incubator for the region. He said that this is in the very early planning stage. He <br /> told the Board that he would keep them informed. <br /> <br /> President Fendley stated the next item on the agenda was consideration of a <br /> resolution supporting the participation of the City of Paris in the Lone Star City <br /> Program and assisting Paris in the achievement of a designation as a Lone Star <br /> City. Mr. Vest discussed the Lone Star City Program and the fact that it would be <br /> a valuable certification for the City of Paris since it already meets all the <br /> qualification requirements to become a Lone Star City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fendley called for questions and there were none. <br /> <br /> City Attorney T. K. Haynes and he read the resolution. <br /> <br /> Resolution No: 97-007, resolving that the Paris Economic Development <br /> Corporation does hereby support the participation of the City of Paris in the Lone <br /> Star City Program and will cooperate, to the greatest extent possible, in assisting <br /> paris to achieve designation as Lone Star City, was presented. <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 97-007 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, economic growlh through (1) business retention and expansion and (2) <br /> industrial recruitment is vital to the prosperity and stability of the community; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that recruitment efforts by cities throughout the United <br /> States for new industrial startups and expansions is becoming increasingly competitive; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a planned, well-organized economic development program is necessary, not <br /> only to compete successfully for the recruitment of new industries, but also to assist existing <br /> industries with expansion plans; and, <br /> <br /> W}IEREAS, a successful economic development program requires the commitment and <br /> cooperation of local government and the business community; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the "Lone Star City" program provides a means for cities to enhance their <br /> economic development efforts through a formal certification program stressing training and <br /> community preparedness and cooperation; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PARIS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br /> CORPORATION, that the Paris Economic Development Corporation does hereby support the <br /> participation of the City of Paris in the Lone Star City Program and will cooperate, to the greatest <br /> extent possible, in assisting Paris to achieve designation as a Lone Star City. <br /> <br /> <br />
