513 <br /> <br /> MINUTES OF THE PARIS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br />__ February 16, 2000 <br /> <br /> The Paris Economic Development Corporation met in a regular meeting on <br /> Wednesday, February 16, 2000, at 4:00 P.M., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, <br /> Paris, Texas. President Michael Rhodes called the meeting to order with the <br /> following boardmembers present: Jay Guest, and Donald Wall. Also, present were <br /> ex-officio boardmembers Bobby Walters, Chamber Chairman Paul Swasko, Mayor <br /> Charles Neeley, Executive Director Gary Vest, City Manager Michael E. Malone, and <br /> City Attorney Larry Schenk. <br /> <br /> President Michael Rhodes stated that the next item on the agenda was approval of <br /> the minutes from the previous meeting of the Paris Economic Development <br /> Corporation. He asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes of <br /> the previous meeting, and there were none. Boardmember Don Wall made a motion, <br /> seconded by Boardmember Jay Guest, that the minutes be approved as presented. <br /> The motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> President Rhodes asked Gene Anderson, Director of Finance, to give the financial <br /> report for the month of January. Mr. Anderson gave the financial report. Mr. <br /> Anderson stated that he would be glad to answer any questions concerning this <br />-- report. Boardmember Jay Guest made a motion, seconded by Boardmember Don <br /> Wall, that the financial report be approved as presented. The motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br /> President Rhodes asked Gary Vest to give the Director's Report. Mr. Vest discussed <br /> responses received due to the advertising program and inquiries received through <br /> the Internet this past month. He reported that the City Council has approved a tax <br /> phase-in for Earthgrains on their expansion, the County Commissioners have <br /> approved it, and Bobby Walters will take it before the Paris Junior College Board at <br /> their next meeting. He mentioned that he and several others had attended a meeting <br /> today with TXU, and one of the items that was discussed was a day trip by the <br /> boardmembers to TXU prior to April 15th, to meet their new economic development <br /> employees. He said that we would like to have a reciprocal agreement with TXU <br /> where they would travel to Paris to see the area that they are helping us to market. <br /> He said that when we do this he would like to have an Allies Day sometime in May <br /> and invite several representatives from Texas Department of Economic Development <br /> and Northeast Texas Economic Development District. <br /> <br /> Chamber Chairman Paul Swasko discussed the hospitals reclassification progress, <br /> a future Lamar County Day in Washington, and the recent Beautification Forum. <br /> <br /> <br />
