Paris Public Library Advisory Board
02/15/2023
Meeting Minutes
Call to Order:
The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order by
Chairman Steve Hellmann at 5:00 pm.
Board members present were: Steve Hellmann, Eva Dickey, DeEtte Cobb, Amy
Watson, and Jennifer Cullum. Assistant City Manager Rob Vine and Library Director
Connie Lawman were present. Melanie Loughmiller and Lauren Matthews were
absent.
Citizens Forum:
No citizens addressed the library board.
III. Approval: Minutes of the January 18th, 2023 meeting were approved with one
correction. Under New Business, Item A, Connie Lawman asked that the wording for
Lena McIntyre's job title be changed from "librarian" to "paraprofessional." Amy
Watson made the motion to approve the minutes, with Jennifer Cullum providing
the second.
IV. New Business:
Administration Standards from the Texas Library Association.
Connie is working on the Strategic Plan Checklist, provided by the Texas Library
Association. She will be using the checklist as a jumping off point to document short-
term and long-term goals for the library, as well as identifying strengths and
weaknesses that are currently present. Ron and Jerry will be assisting Connie in the
process. Connie noted that the March meeting agenda will focus on the checklist.
The City of Paris is in the process of undergoing a re -branding and Connie wants to
ensure that the library's mission statement aligns with the city.
b. Merchandize Marketing:
Connie would like to add new items to the library's marketing options. Right now,
there is only one item that has the library's name on it for patrons to purchase.
Connie would like to offer low -price tote bags for sale to the patrons, in placement
of the overwhelming amount of grocery bags at the counter. Not only will this help
put the library's brand out in the public with the tote bags, but also alleviate the
library of the grocery bags that are very often dirty.
