ORDINANCE No,, 2023-061 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING SECTION 2.10.034(a), "SENIORITY PAY," OF CHAPTER 2, <br />"POLICE," OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; <br />MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; <br />PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS <br />CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the employment of police officers in the City of Paris is governed by <br />Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code which authorizes and governs dealing with Civil <br />Service employment; and', <br />WHEREAS, Section 143.041 of the Local Government Code further authorizes the <br />governing body of a municipality to provide additional compensation t1111111) police officers based <br />on longevity and/or seniority; and <br />WHEREAS, in implementing the city's 2023-2024 budget, the City Council has <br />authorized a change in base and seniority pay across all ranks; and <br />WHEREAS, in implementing the city's 2023-,2024 budget, the City Council has <br />authorized a transition from biennial seniority increases to annual seniority increases; and <br />WHEREAS, Civil Service law requires that this change be made by ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council hereby formalizes the changes made to police officers <br />seniority pay in the 2023-2024 budget year; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />Section 2. That Section 2.10.034(a), "Seniority Pay, ": of Chapter 2,, "Police," of the <br />Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris,, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br />"Sec. 2.10.034 Seniority Pay <br />(a) Members of the police department below the rank of chief- shall be entitled to <br />receive seniority Dav on the basis of years in rank achieved in the City of Paris <br />olice Department. said seniori* <br />base pay as follows: <br />to be in addition to each police officer's <br />
