ORDINANCE NO. 2023-062 <br />M I <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING SECTION 6.02.004(a), " SENIORITY PAY," OF CHAPTER 6, <br />" FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION, " OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES <br />OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER <br />CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND DECLARING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the employment of firefighters in the City of Paris is governed b y Chapter <br />143 of the Local Government Code which authorizes and governs dealing with Civil Service <br />employment; and, <br />WHEREAS, Section 143.041 of the Local Government Code further authorizes the <br />Is <br />governing body of a municipality to provide additional compensation to fire fighters based <br />on longevity and/or seniority; and <br />WHEREAS, in implementing the city's 2023-2024 budget, the City Council has <br />authorized a change in base and seniority pay across all ranks; and <br />WHEREAS, in implementing the city's 2023-2024 budget, the City Council has <br />authorized a transition from biennial seniority increases to annual seniority increases; and <br />WHEREAS, Civil Service law requires that this change be made by ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council hereby formalizes the changes made to firefighter <br />seniority pay in the 2023-2024 budget y ear; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />Section 2. That Section 6.02.004(a), "Seniority Pay,": of Chapter 6, "Fire <br />Prevention and Protection," of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas, is hereby <br />amended to read as follows: <br />"Sec. 6.02.004 Seniority Pay <br />(a) Members of the fire department below the rank of chief shall be entitled to <br />receive seniority pad on the basis of years in rank achieved in the City of Paris <br />Fire De.�artment. said seniority nay_ to be in addition to each firefighter's base <br />nay as follows: <br />
