DeEtte responded, stating that if the artwork went on loan, the value of it would
raise. Eva Dickey said that the simple act of loaning an item is what the library
stands for and that it's a good thing. Jennifer added that it is only through
traveling collections that she has been able to view some of the world's historic
and artistic treasures and if not for the collection being on travel, she would not
have been able to see them. DeEtte agreed, and said that as an esteemed artist
herself, with many paintings on loan in collections, she supports loaning the
item. Steve agreed with the other board members and called for a vote to
approve the loan. All board members in attendance were in favor of loaning the
John T. Biggers painting to the Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas.
g. Capital Project Update:
Connie informed the board that $45,000 has been permitted to replace the
library furniture. Along with previously mentioned items that will be replaced in
order to help keep the library more sanitary and update the appearance, Connie
showed the board a new item included in the cost of the furniture updates. This
item is called a "Family Station," and was depicted as a mother sitting at a
computer station, with a young child at her feet, in a small, enclosed area that is
connected to this specific computer station. Connie said that this could be
helpful for parents who are trying to do computer work but need some safe
place next to them, to set their young child down while they can focus on their
tasks. The Family Station costs $5,000. The board approved the concept, and
discussed possible locations for placement and how it would be kept clean.
V. Friends of the Library Report
There were no representatives of the Friends of the Paris Public Library at the
meeting on this date.
VI. Statistics
The library summary included for May 2023: currently there are 10,990
library cards in use, 364 reference assistance requests, 388 internet
usage requests, 84 times for computer instruction, and 399 times for
account log -ins.
Current financials for May 2023 show $566,230.84 spent of the
$767,205.00 FY 2023 budget.
VII. Director's Remarks
Connie included her remarks within her programming reports.
Prior to adjourning, Chairman Steve Hellmann wanted to remind all in attendance that the next
meeting would usher in new board members and each person would be required to be sworn in
prior to the next meeting.
