b. New Board Members
All board members introduced themselves to the group. Afterward, Steve
requested that the board members review the bylaws. Steve reminded the
board members of the stated attendance policy:
Advisory Board members may only have 3 unexcused absences over the course
of 12 months. Unexcused absences above 3 will result in the board member
being removed. The Advisory Board works because members show up.
Steve also asked to have the elected positions of the Advisory Board noted for
any member who is interested in running for the position:
Chairman: presides over the meeting and calls special meetings
Vice Chairman: stands in for the Chairman, in the event of an absence
Secretary: takes meeting minutes
The Advisory Board will vote on the 3 positions at the August 16th, 2023 meeting.
c. Program Updates:
i. Connie stated that the Summer Reading Program just finished and
reading logs were due on 07/15/23. There were 495 participants, with
this being the first time that the program included all ages. Connie said
that this was an incredible hit for the patrons and she will continue to
have a Summer Reading Program kickoff each year.
ii. Children's entertainers have been well-received this summer. Connie is
working on gauging the audience reaction and requesting repeat
appearances by the performers who were most favored. Connie invited
Creature Teacher to come out and the audience turnout was large
enough that it required the performance to take place in the gallery
because the meeting room was too small.
Connie also noted that Lego League, BINGO, and Adult D&D are also
doing great.
iii. Reavis Wortham agreed to come on August 5th, from 11-1, to promote his
new book.
iv. Guided Meditation is a small audience and Connie may remove the
program in the fall, if the lack of participant interest continues.
V. Maxey House Passport has had one family use the pass so far.
d. CPR staff training and public presentation
On August 18th, the library will close at noon in order for the Paris EMS to train
and certify staff on CPR and how to use the AED. This will take place from 1-5
p.m.
A CPR demonstration will be held for the public on August 19th, geared toward
parents and guardians, with the Paris EMS offering tips on what to do in case of
an emergency.
