Item No. 16 TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council Grayson Path, City Manager FROM: Richard Salter, Chief of Police Thomas McMonigle, Fire Chief SUBJECT: PUBLIC SERVICE AND HEROISM AWARD DATE: April 22, 2024 BACKGROUND: The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is the largest male lineage organization in the United States and consists of 50 state -level societies with more than 500 local chapters. The SAR is a non- profit non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History and teaching American History to future generations. Their activities include honoring members of local Police, Fire and EMS departments for outstanding service. STATUS OF ISSUE: The Public Service and Heroism Committee (PS&H) of the Red River Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) wishes to recognize and honor thirteen Law Enforcement, Fire Safety and Emergency Medical Services employees for their contributions to our community, and for Heroic Acts performed over the past year. Furthermore, these award recipients are recognized in a book published and distributed electronically during the SAR National Congress in July. The Award Categories Include: • Fire Safety Commendation Award in recognition of accomplishments and/or outstanding contributions to protect human life and property by preventing injuries or casualties due to fires, • Emergency Medical Services Award in dedication to the preservation of life and health under emergency conditions and/or performing beyond the duties normally called for within the Emergency Medical Services profession, • Law Enforcement Commendation Award in recognition of outstanding achievement and dedication to the maintenance of law and order, • Life Saving Award in recognition of saving a human life under emergency conditions,
