Item No. 16 <br />TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council <br />Grayson Path, City Manager <br />FROM: Richard Salter, Chief of Police <br />Thomas McMonigle, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: PUBLIC SERVICE AND HEROISM AWARD <br />DATE: April 22, 2024 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is the largest male lineage organization in the United <br />States and consists of 50 state -level societies with more than 500 local chapters. The SAR is a non- <br />profit non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History <br />and teaching American History to future generations. Their activities include honoring members <br />of local Police, Fire and EMS departments for outstanding service. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: <br />The Public Service and Heroism Committee (PS&H) of the Red River Chapter of the Sons of the <br />American Revolution (SAR) wishes to recognize and honor thirteen Law Enforcement, Fire Safety <br />and Emergency Medical Services employees for their contributions to our community, and for <br />Heroic Acts performed over the past year. Furthermore, these award recipients are recognized in <br />a book published and distributed electronically during the SAR National Congress in July. <br />The Award Categories Include: <br />• Fire Safety Commendation Award in recognition of accomplishments and/or outstanding <br />contributions to protect human life and property by preventing injuries or casualties due to <br />fires, <br />• Emergency Medical Services Award in dedication to the preservation of life and health under <br />emergency conditions and/or performing beyond the duties normally called for within the <br />Emergency Medical Services profession, <br />• Law Enforcement Commendation Award in recognition of outstanding achievement and <br />dedication to the maintenance of law and order, <br />• Life Saving Award in recognition of saving a human life under emergency conditions, <br />
