Item No. 18 <br />TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council <br />Robert Vine, Interim City Manager <br />FROM: Randy Tuttle, Assistant Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: SCHOOL SPEED ZONES <br />DATE: July 15, 2024 <br />BACKGROUND: Prior to the end of the 2023-24 school year, Paris, North Lamar, and Chisum <br />Independent School Districts voted to change their instructional schedule to four days a week. This <br />requires the instructional day to be extended for each campus. Because of this the times for each <br />school speed zone needs to be changed to reflect the new start and dismissal times. Trinity <br />Christian Academy has no change in their school speed zone. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: On July 08, 2024 the City of Paris Traffic Commission considered this issue <br />and voted 4-0 to recommend the City Council consider changing times on the school zones in each <br />district along with adding a school speed zone at the new North Lamar Intermediate School located <br />at 310 North Lamar Parkway. The recommended changes are attached as Exhibit A. <br />BUDGET: Anticipated $500.00 impact on current budget <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve ordinance amending the Traffic Control Map changing the <br />times of school speed zones in each district and establishing a new school speed zone on North <br />Lamar Parkway.. <br />
