Item No. 21
TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council
Rob Vine, Interim City Manager
FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE TRAFFIC COMMISSION
AND THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
DATE: August 12, 2024
BACKGROUND: Policies and Procedures for Boards & Commissions adopted by City Council
require that appointments be made at the second regular City Council meeting in June. City
Council deferred the appointments to their first meeting in July, allowing a Council Member for
District 2 to be seated.
At the July 8, 2024 meeting, City Council made appointments to the various Boards and
Commissions, and at that time there were not a sufficient number of applicants to complete the
process. Staff re -advertised for the vacancies. At the July 22, 2024 meeting, City Council made
appointments to various boards.
On August 7, 2024, Seth Johnson resigned from the Historic Preservation Commission, leaving
an alternate position vacant (expires 6-30-2025).
STATUS OF ISSUE: There were not enough applicants to fill the three positions on the Traffic
Commission. City Council directed staff to re -advertise and to call applicants not selected for
other boards to find out if they would be interested in serving on another board. Staff contacted
applicants who had applied for other boards. Applicants interested in serving on the Traffic
Commission are Gloria Day, Linda Vandiver, and Sequoia Bruce.
On August 7, 2024, Staff contacted Millicent Kee to see if she would be interested in serving on
HPC and she expressed a desire to do so. Ms. Kee had previously applied to serve on the Main
Street Advisory Board.
BUDGET: N/A
