Item No. 17 <br />FITY Rill =I, F WAM, A <br />TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & Council <br />Rose Beverly, City Manager <br />Rob Vine, Deputy City Manager <br />FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk <br />SUBJECT: UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES <br />DATE: February 24, 2025 <br />BACKGROUND: In order to cancel the general election in a district, the candidate must be <br />unopposed. The candidates in Districts 4, 5 and 7 are unopposed and the deadline has passed to <br />make application to run for City Council. These Council Members will be administered the Oath <br />of Office on May 12, 2025, at the regular City Council meeting. . <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: Chapter 2 of the Texas Election Law governs the election of unopposed <br />candidates for political subdivisions. Under Section 2.052 of the Election Code, I have issued a <br />certification of unopposed status for Districts 4, 5 and 7. <br />BUDGET: NA. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve an Ordinance declaring Mihir Pankaj as an unopposed <br />candidate in Council District 4, Rebecca Norment as an unopposed candidate in Council District <br />5 and Tracy Attebury as an unopposed candidate in District 7; cancelling the General Election in <br />Districts 4, 5 & 7; and declaring the unopposed candidates as elected to office pursuant to Election <br />Code Section 2.053. <br />
