RESOLUTION NO 2025-015
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS REPEALING
RESOLUTION NO. 557 ESTABLISHING A TRAFFIC COMMISSION FOR THE CITY;
MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on February 8, 1954, the City Council of the City of Paris adopted Resolution No.
557 which established a Traffic Commission, an advisory commission authorized to consider any and
all problems relating to traffic or traffic problems of any kind within the City of Paris; and
WHEREAS, since that time, the Traffic Commission has met as needed to consider such
problems and to recommend solutions to City Council; and
WHEREAS, in recent years, citizen interest in the Traffic Commission has waned and it has
become increasingly difficult to find citizens interested in serving thereon; and
WHEREAS, it is not uncommon for the Commission to cancel meetings for want of a quorum;
and
WHEREAS, the difficulties in holding meetings has resulted in delays in implementing much
needed traffic improvements in many instances; and
WHEREAS, as a result of all of the above, the Traffic Commission has outlived its usefulness;
WHEREAS, no state law requires that the City appoint and maintain such a Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
F0.T.Im
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things
approved and are incorporated herein for all purposes.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas finds that maintaining a Traffic
Commission interferes with the prompt consideration by City Council of important traffic related
issues and that dissolving said Commission is in the best interest of the City and its inhabitants.
Section 3. That consequently, the City Council hereby repeals Resolution No. 557 which
created the Traffic Commission in 1954 and dissolves the Traffic Commission as it presently exists.
Section 4. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.
