Texas Election Code — Eligibility for Public Office Sec. 141.001 <br />To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office in this state, a person <br />must: <br />Be a United States citizen; <br />Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of <br />appointment as applicable; <br />Have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court; <br />Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise <br />released from the resulting disabilities; <br />Have resided continuously in the state for twelve months and in the territory from which the office is elected <br />for six months. <br />Paris City Charter Section 15 <br />To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office, a person must: <br />Be 18 years of age or older; <br />Be a United States citizen; <br />Be a resident of the State of Texas for twelve months as of the deadline for filing for office, and a bona fide <br />resident of the district in which the person seeks election for twelve months as of the deadline before filing <br />for office; <br />Have not been convicted of a felony; <br />Have not been adjudged to be mentally incompetent by a court or be disqualified by reason of any provision <br />of any section of the City of Paris Charter or of Chapter 141 of the Texas Election Code. <br />A member of the council shall immediately forfeit his office if the member ceases to possess any of the <br />qualifications specified in section 15 or in any other section of the Charter or while in office is convicted of <br />a felony, is placed on felony probation or is otherwise subject to any type of court supervision following <br />disposition or resolution of a felony charge. For purposes of this section, a bona fide residence shall be <br />defined as a place in which the council member actually resides, prima facie evidence of which may include <br />a utility account in the name of the council member, or the member's spouse, parent or child with whom <br />the member actually resides. <br />(Ord.
