Crime Prevention Officer
Lamar County Juvenile Probation Department
Boys Club
Paris Independent School District
Northeast Texas Council of Drug and Alcohol Abuse
The officer refers parents and children to the Lamar County Juvenile Probation
Department, and the Northeast Texas Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse for individual
and family counseling. The Juvenile /Gang Officer works with individual juveniles to
assist them in finding alternatives to the gang lifestyle. The officer assists them in
becoming enlisted in the Boys Club, Police Athletic League, and Alcohol and Drug Abuse
programs.
4. Identify the gap in available resources or services that makes this application necessary.
This department is depending on the funding provided from this grant to continue the
work we have begun. Prior to receiving this grant, the City of Paris had no Juvenile
Officer to work specifically on juvenile crime and gang activity. The continuation of this
grant is vital to our current juvenile program and our ability to deter gang activity.
5. If funded, how world the proposed project work with the community and other agencies
toward impacting the problem stated above?
The Juvenile /Gang Officer will continue to work with the Boys Club and Police Athletic
League to provide alternative activities to "at risk" youth. The officer will also continue
to work with the Lamar County Juvenile Probation Department and the Northeast Texas
Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse for family and individual counseling. The
Juvenile /Gang Officer has also initiated a graffiti removal project in the City of Paris. The
project uses juveniles who have been given court appointed community service time to
remove graffiti from buildings in our city, thus providing a valuable service to our
community.
6. What are the specific activities proposed that will address the problem stated on A -L
Please inchide information on the target area, population, and member of people
served.
The City of Paris has an estimated population of 25,496 people. According to the Paris
Independent School District the population of all school aged children in Paris is 3,965.
The population of the target group (children age 10 to 16) is 2,702.
