This leads us to believe that having an officer to work specifically with juveniles is
beginning to show results. Additionally, there were 5' ) combined day and night curfew
violations cited against juveniles in 1997. This statistic is dramatically down from 128
violations in 1996 and 143 violations cited in 1995.
10. What are the projects goals, for each effectiveness measure by the end o f the grant
year?
Our goals are to continue to work with every available resource in an effort to decrease
both the hard core members and those who associate Alth gangs and their lifestyle. We
hope to decrease both by ten percent during this grant year. We hope to do this by
continuing to speak with teachers and parents in an effort to educate them on the reasons
for, and warning signs of, gang activity. We also hope to continue to see a decline in
curfew violations and juvenile arrests of ten percent due to our all out efforts in prevention
and cooperation with other resources after an initial contact has been made. Additionally,
we hope to teach the G.R.E.A.T. curriculum to 300 students in the coming year. There
is no baseline date for these effectiveness measures. Until receiving this grant, there was
no system in place to track such activities.
D
