<br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-161 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, economic growth through (1) business retention and expansion and (2) <br />industrial recruitment is vital to the prosperity and stability of the community; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that recruitment efforts by cities throughout the United <br />States for new industrial startups and expansions is becoming increasingly competitive; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a planned, well-organized economic development program is necessary, not <br />only to compete successfully for the recruitment of new industries, but also to assist existing <br />industries with expansion plans; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a successful economic development program requires the commitment and <br />cooperation of local government and the business community; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the "Lone Star City" program provides a means for cities to enhance their <br />economic development efforts through a formal certification program stressing training and <br />community preparedness and cooperation; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that the <br />City of Paris does hereby support the participation of the City of Paris in the Lone Star City <br />Program and will cooperate, to the greatest extent possible, in assisting Paris to achieve <br />designation as a Lone Star City. <br /> <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of November, 1998. <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> <br />Mattie Cunningham, City Clerk <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br />..
