RESOLUTION NO. 2006-044 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, CERTIFYING SUPPORT FOR THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORT A TION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM NOMINATION FORM 2006 WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE APPLICATION TO RECEIVE FUNDING TO EXTEND THE TRAIL DE PARIS; AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR ACCEPTANCE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SAID GRANT UPON NOTICE THEREOF; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation provides funding for Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program grants, and the Cities of Paris and Reno wish to undertake projects to improve the safety and efficiency of movement of pedestrians and bicyclers; and, WHEREAS, the recently completed Trail de Paris, which is a pedestrian and bike trail, is a viable and important asset to the City of Paris, local schools, and local businesses, and the extension of the Trail for approximately three (3) miles from Loop Highway 286 S.E. in the city of Paris and continuing through the city of Reno near to its southeastern city limit line will accomplish the intentions of both Cities; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris is desirous of processing a joint application with the City of Reno for the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program grant for the extension of the Trail de Paris, in the amount of approximately $800,000.00, being 80% of the estimated cost of the transportation enhancement project, with approximately $200,000.00 to be provided in the form of locally raised donations of funds, services, or materials; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the City of Paris, as fiscal agent, agrees to co-sponsor, with the City of Reno, an application to the Texas Department of Transportation for a Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program grant for extension of the Trail de Paris approximately three (3) miles from Loop Highway 286 S.E. in the city of Paris and continuing through the city of Reno near to its southeastern city limit line.
