<br />Regular City Council Meeting <br />May 8, 2006 <br />Page 6 <br /> <br />Council Member Ray questioned the Agreement as to why it allows for retention of <br />500 jobs instead of the 900 jobs. Tony said it was impossible to forecast the technology in <br />seven years. Mayor Fendley said if we do not approve the tax abatement, we may not have <br />the 500 jobs. <br /> <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Wilson and seconded <br />by Council Member Wilkerson. Motion carried, 6 ayes - 0 nays. <br /> <br />B. RESOLUTION NO. 2006-072: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, APPROVING AND <br />AUTHORIZING A TAX ABATEMENT AGREEMENTWITHKIMBERL Y- <br />CLARK CORPORATION; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />Council Member Manning stated that the Tax Abatement Agreement does not <br />necessarily mean that Kimberly Clark will be down 400 jobs. Council Member Wilson <br />emphasized that they need to attract new industry to Paris and those potential new industries <br />will consider how current industries are treated when making location decisions. <br /> <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Wilson and seconded <br />by Council Member Manning. Motion carried, 5 ayes - 1 nay, with Council Member Ray <br />casting the dissenting vote. <br /> <br />7. Public Hearing pursuant to Chapter 7 of the City Charter and Section 43.142 of the <br />Local Government Code, to consider the disannexation of an 825.08 acre tract ofland <br />on U.S. Highway 271 South, located south of Cox Field Airport forming a portion of <br />the current outer boundaries of the city limits of the City of Paris. <br /> <br />Mayor Fendley opened the public hearing and asked for anyone speaking in favor of <br />this item to do so. No one spoke in support of this item. Mayor Fendley asked for anyone <br />speaking against this item to do so. With no one speaking, Mayor Fendley closed the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />8. Public Hearing pursuant to Chapter 7 of the City Charter and Section 43.142 of the <br />Local Government Code, to consider the disannexation of a 116.41 acre tract of land <br />at State Hwy 19/24 South forming a portion of the current outer boundaries of the city <br />limits of the City of Paris. <br />
