(903) 737.9300 <br /> <br />May 4, 2006 <br /> <br />Mr. Gary Vest <br />Executive Director <br />Paris Economic Development Corporation <br />1125 Bonham Street <br />Paris, Texas 75460 <br /> <br />RE: US 82 Westbound Deceleration Lane at Campbell Soup <br /> <br />Dear Gary: <br /> <br />Sometime back, I was approached by officials from Campbell Soup Company <br />with safety concerns related to their employees' driveway on westbound US 82. <br />After looking at the existing situation, I determined that a combined paved <br />shoulder/deceleration lane was needed between the railroad underpass and the <br />driveway. This proposed improvement will provide a refuge for employees of <br />Campbell's as they slow down to turn into the plant while avoiding the fast <br />moving traffic, a significant number being trucks, traveling in the right hand <br />lane of US 82. A paved shoulder is beneficial for numerous other reasons as <br />well. An aerial view of this is attached. <br /> <br />The estimated cost for construction is $160,000. In order to make this project a <br />reality, a shared cost arrangement is being pursued between the Texas <br />Department of Transportation and the Paris Economic Deveiopment <br />Corporation. If the PEDe is willing to donate a fixed sum of $50,000 toward <br />this project, I feel that the constnlction of this project can be accelerated into a <br />Fall 2006 timeframe. <br /> <br />Upon PEDe's concurrence of this request, I will forward an Agreement to <br />~t Donation for Highway Constmction Pro~ document to you for your <br />execution.
