JUNE 5. 2006 <br />12:00 O'CLOCK P.M. <br /> <br />1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by <br />Chairman Arvin Starrett at 12:00 P.M. <br /> <br />A. The following members were present: <br />Arvin Starrett, Chairman <br />Paul Denney <br />Sue Lancaster <br />Claudia Hunt <br />Jerry Raper <br />Alternate: Brian Wear <br /> <br />The following members were absent: <br />Ann Rogers, Secretary <br />Pike Burkhart <br />Alternate: Becki Norment <br /> <br />B. Also present were Lisa Wright, Historic Preservation Officer; and <br />Bethany Golden, Main Street Coordinator. <br /> <br />2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (May 22, 2006) The minutes <br />were approved as presented by Brian Wear, seconded by Jerry Raper. Motion <br />carried 6.0. <br /> <br />3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificates of Appropriateness: <br /> <br />A. 36 w: Plaza. Don Moffett. Don Moffett, 3130 Stacy Lane, stated that on <br />the south side of the building there are 8 windows. Because the <br />building was a movie theater, there is no second story, and the <br />windows have brick behind them where pigeons are roosting. Mr. <br />Moffett wants to put in wood and paint the building and wood. The <br />windows are not functional. Also, the front awning that was ripped off <br />in a wind storm is being replaced. The awning will be replaced with the <br />same style but will be black canvass. Arvin Starrett stated that the <br />design guidelines for the downtown commercial district do have a <br />section that deals with the blanking out of windows. The guidelines <br />
