<br />RESOLUTION NO. 96-007 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a special election was held by the qualified voters of the City of Paris, <br />Paris, Texas, on the 20th day of January, 1996, for the purpose of voting on proposed <br />amendments to the Charter of the City of Paris; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the United States for the <br />Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in Civil Action No. P-75-3-CA, and as provided in <br />the Charter of the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas, wherein they do not conflict <br />with said Order, such election was conducted and held at seven (7) specified and designated <br />polling places, that is, one polling place each in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the City of <br />Paris, Paris, Texas; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly appointed and designated <br />election officials of and for the seven (7) respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor <br />and City Council of the City of Paris as required by law, which returns, after due and deliberate <br />review and canvass thereof, show the following results of said election, to-wit: <br /> <br />A. PROPOSITION NO. 1 - Shall Sections 4, 8, 16 and 20 of the Charter of the City of <br />Paris be amended to reflect the currently established seven single-member voting districts <br />in which each councilman must be a bona fide resident of the district for which he seeks <br />election and can be voted for only by the residents of that district? <br /> <br />1. IN DISTRICT ONE (1) A TOTAL OF 50 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 39 <br />No 11 <br /> <br />2. IN DISTRICT TWO (2) A TOTAL OF 36 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 28 <br />No 8 <br /> <br />3. IN DISTRICT THREE (3) A TOTAL OF 138 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 87 <br />No 51 <br /> <br />4. IN DISTRICT FOUR (4) A TOTAL OF 95 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 72 <br />No 23 <br /> <br />5. IN DISTRICT FIVE (5) A TOTAL OF 88 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 70 <br />No 18 <br /> <br />6. IN DISTRICT SIX (6) A TOTAL OF 124 VOTES WERE CAST AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Yes 104 <br />No 20 <br /> <br />1 <br />
