<br />Reno Animal Control <br /> <br />Ordinance No. PD-08 <br /> <br />Section. 17 Defense. <br /> <br />(a) It is a defense to prosecution under Section 14 or Section 16 that the person is a <br />dog trainer or an employee of a guard dog company under the Private <br />Investigators and Private Security Agencies Act ,Article 4413(29bb),Vemon's <br />Texas Civil Statutes, and was functioning in that capacity at the time. <br /> <br />Section. 18 Pets and animal care guidelines. <br /> <br />The following are established for pet and animal care and are not intended to contravene <br />the provisions for animal cruelty contained in the Texas Penal Code. <br /> <br />(a) Provisions of food, shelter and care generally. No person shall fail to provide <br />his/her animals with sufficient good and wholesome food and water, proper <br />shelter and protection from the weather, veterinary care when needed to prevent <br />suffering, and with humane care and treatment. <br /> <br />(b) Abuse of animal, fighting. No person shall beat, cruelly ill-treat, overload, <br />overwork, or otherwise abuse an animal, or cause, instigate or permit any <br />dogfight, cockfight, bullfight or other combat between animals or between animal <br />and humans. <br /> <br />(c) Abandonment. No owner ofan animal shall abandon such animal. <br /> <br />(d) Tying dogs. It shall be unlamul for any person to tie or tether a dog to a <br />stationary object for a period of time or in a location so as to create an <br />unhealthy situation for the animal or a potentially dangerous situation for a <br />pedestrian as determined by the supervisor of animal control. <br /> <br />(e) Fenced enclosures. It shall be unlawful for any person to keep a dog within a <br />fenced enclosure in which the fence is in a state of disrepair. <br /> <br />(f) Keeping of rabbits. Distance from dwelling and enclosure: <br /> <br />Rabbits shall be kept in a secure pen or enclosure that is at least thirty (30) feet <br />from an inhabited dwelling, other than that of the O\vner, and such <br />enclosure shall be of such construction and strength to keep said rabbits from <br />running at large. <br /> <br />Section. 19 Adoption of animals fr'om animal shelter and fees. <br /> <br />A person who desires to adopt an animal from the animal shelter shall: <br /> <br />(n) Pay an adoption fee per the following schedule: <br /> <br />(I) Feline: Female or Male..................... <br /> <br />$35.00 <br /> <br />(2) Canine: Female or Male....................... <br /> <br />$65.00 <br /> <br />]5 <br /> <br />r-'" <br />
