Paris Public Library Advisory Board
Minutes of the Regular Meeting
August 16, 2006

The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday afternoon, August 16, 2006, at 4
o'clock in the Library Gallery. Vice-chairman Jake Street called the meeting to order. Other members in
attendance were Hilda Mallory, Deborah Hatley, Jackie Alsobrook, Debbie Anderson, and Fran Neeley. Also in
attendance were Priscilla McAnally, Library Director; and Amanda Green, Friends of the Library President.

Jackie Alsobrook made the motion to accept the July minutes, seconded by Hilda Mallory. Motion carried.

The board looked at carpet samples suggested by Bill Kennedy, Priscilla McAnally, and the suppliers.

Discussion was held concerning the library volunteer policy. A minimum commitment of 10 hours per month
was suggested as were background checks. Other suggestions included adding "a.m." and "p.m." to the
schedule on the volunteer information form.

State requirements mandate a long range plan. Ms. McAnally passed around a copy of the Honey Grove plan. It
was suggested that we use a similar format to satisfy requirements with the disclaimer that the plan is in the
"construction" process. This will allow more time for an effective plan to be formulated. Suggestion included
surveys, study groups, help from NETLS, and board subcommittees.

Ms. McAnally distributed the July budget report and statistical reports. There is $114,129. 02 left in the library
budget. July circulation was down 15% from 2005 and library visits were down 17%. There were 205 new
items for July and $251 in memorial gifts. There was one children's program with 21 in attendance. Ms.
McAnally is in the process of refining the audio/video collection. In personnel matters, Emily Kirkman will be
retiring, probably in November.

Dr. Green reported for the Friends on the memorial plaques. She displayed several possibilities and will gather
more information on those. A name will be added to the plaque for bequests or donations of $5000 or more.
Recognition of memorial donations was discussed. Debbie Anderson volunteered to type those up each week to
be posted on the web site, if possible, and to be given to the Friends for inclusion in the newsletter.

Jackie Alsobrook made a motion seconded by Fran Neeley to make a donation of$25.00 in memory of Walter
Williams, former Library Advisory Board member. Motion carried.

Ms. McAnally reported on the library art appraisals. The 23 Jose Cisneros prints are valued at $1,500 each. Four
other prints are valued at $1,000 each. The Culbertson portraits are valued at $7,500 each, and the Biggers
mural at $125,000. The five Bywaters panels are valued at $50,000 each.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.

M4~

Debbie Anderson, Secretary

"r"'"". .".,
