He was interested in our information
about pollution from coal-fired electric generators. Building 17 new coal-fired
electric generators in Texas could be a BAD mistake. They could be outlawed
because of world pollution almost as soon as they are built. Texans would have
to pay for them even if they were closed.
There are "cleaner" coal-fired units; but, burning coal cannot be done
without a tremendous amount of pollution and production of greenhouse gases.
Whether or not the greenhouse theory about global warming is correct, the
pollution caused by burning huge amounts of coal is not wise. That is the point
everyone must recognize.
At the regional meeting in Bonham in August, the TXU engineers reported
that 110 train cars of coal would be burned every day at that single electric
plant. Think of that in terms of the existent and proposed coal-fired plants in
Texas and Oklahoma. Multiply 110 train carloads by 40 coal-fired electric plants
now in Texas.
Would you take the lead for legislation in Texas similar to Idaho and
Nevada to stop building coal-fired generators? The issue here is the importance
of clean air over Earth, not just Texas. Note the articles written about coal
burning pollution in China, polluting the West Coast of the United States.
Please investigate the possibility of the United States building and
controlling nuclear electric generators for the world. Think of the economics for
the United States and the logistical aspects of our control of atomic reactors.
The United States is the only nation that could quickly mass-produce nuclear
reactors. The way to start the world is to start in Texas.

~~~~~J
~;rd B. If we have another summer like 2006, power consumption
could be greatly reduced by the voluntary request for Texans to turn off the
circuit breaker for electric hot water heaters and turn up their thermostats 8
degrees during the day while they are at work away from home. People would
randomly reset the units in the evening.
