Mr. Lovorn made a presentation to the board on the executive director
position with a hand out on the pros and cons of splitting the position. Mr. Lovorn
reported that the candidate search has been for an Economic Development position and
not for Chamber related services, as the Chamber staff is running the organization
effectively as is.
John Wright asked the non voting members to express their opinion on splitting
the positions. Pam Anglin reported that the position should be split due to the ED
Position requiring a full time commitment. Tony Williams concurred with Mrs. Anglin.
Richard Manning reported the positions should stay together for public relations
purposes.
Dick Severson asked John Lovorn if other models existed that shared a 90/1 0
position. Mr. Lovorn reported that Tyler and New Braunfels have similar models that are
successful.
Rodney Bass asked John Lovorn what his recommendation would be. Mr. Lovorn
reported that all five applicants should be interviewed. After choosing the top applicant,
he would host a visit to Tupelo with the applicant, the chamber staff and the board to
view a model of how the community works. Mr. Lovorn recommended that he would
facilitate a work session afterwards, at no additional cost, to help the board make the
appropriate changes for our community.
