RESOLUTION N0. 2007-010 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, <br />TEXAS, APPROVING THE EXEMPTION FOR THE CITY'S ELECTION <br />PRECINCT FROM THE BILINGUAL REQUIREMENT OF THE TEXAS <br />ELECTION CODE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. Pursuant to Section 272.003 of the Texas Election Code, an election precinct for which <br />the last United States Census shows that persons of Spanish origin or descent comprises less than five percent <br />(5.0%) of the precincts inhabitants is exempt from the Bilingual Election Materials Requirement of § <br />272.002, Texas Election Code. <br />Section 2. The 2000 United States Census shows that only 4.1% of the City of Paris' population <br />is of Hispanic origin or descent, therefore, the Paris City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor of the City <br />of Paris to execute a written certification that the City is exempt from the Bilingual Requirements and to file <br />same along with the other documents required by § 272.003(b), Texas Election Code, with the Lamar County <br />Election Administrator and the Paris City Clerk. <br />Section 3.
