The staff recommendation on CIS software, FireHouse Software, other
required software, hardware design and MDS mobile infrastructure is made due to
our belief that this is a long term solution with best practices and will provide other
city services the ability to join the mobile network to increase their effectiveness.
We have adopted that perspective in planning this project, looking toward the
future instead of what will just get us by for today.

The returns on the investment are expected to make all emergency
services more efficient and effective in these areas:

Faster and more complete information sharing for officers to solve crimes
More efficient dispatching of emergency service units to calls for service
Ending redundant data input
More effective use of personnel
Dispatchers become more efficient and effective
More Information available for dispatchers and responding units
Field reporting keeps officers in the field
Reduction of duplicate radio traffic
Possibility of clerical staff reduction
Increased availability of data to all agencies in the event of a disaster

5/8/2007

15
