ORDINANCE N0. 2007-028 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, AMENDING ARTICLE <br />I, CHAPTER 18, JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT, OF THE CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 18- <br />8, JUROR FEES; PROVIDING THAT PERSONS WHO REPORT FOR JURY <br />DUTY IN RESPONSE TO SUMMONS BY MUNICIPAL COURT SHALL <br />RECEIVE A JUROR FEE; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE AND <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris has historically paid a juror fee of $6.00 to each person that <br />reports for jury service at the Municipal Court; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature during the 80th Regular Legislative Session passed Senate <br />Bill 560 which stated in part that municipalities are not governed by the requirements of Section <br />61.001 of the Texas Government Code applicable to juror expense reimbursement and may <br />determine for themselves whether or not to pay Juror Fees for Municipal court jury service; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has determined that juror service at the <br />City's Municipal Court is an important civic service and that they should continue to pay a jury fee; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things <br />approved. <br />Section 2. That a new Section 18-8, entitled Juror Fee, be added to Article I, Chapter 18 of <br />the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris and that it should read in its entirety as follows: <br />"Sec.18-8. Juror Fee. <br />(a) A person who reports for jury service in response to a Summons from the <br />Municipal Court of the City of Paris, Texas, is entitled to receive as reimbursement <br />for travel and other expenses the sum of six dollars and no/100 ($6.00) per day from <br />the City of Paris. <br />(b) The municipal court clerk shall prepare and forward a list of persons entitled <br />to receive a juror fee to the Finance Department following each jury trial docket held. <br />Section 3. That all provisions of the ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas in conflict with <br />the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, and all other provisions of the ordinances of the <br />City of Paris not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall remain in full force and effect. <br />
