RESOLUTION N0. 200'h145 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS, AFFIRMING THE CITY'S DESIRE TO KEEP THE SIGNAL <br />LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF NORTH MAIN STREET (BU271) AND <br />PROVINE AND REQUESTING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) TO CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN AND <br />OPERATE SAID SIGNAL LIGHT IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE AND <br />LOCAL LAW; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED <br />TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Traffic Commission, at its regular meeting of November 6, 2007,reviewed <br />a request from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to remove the traffic signal at the <br />intersection of North Main Street (BU271) and Provine Street because based on this their traffic <br />assessment a signal light is not warranted at this intersection; and, <br />WHEREAS, on November 12, 2007, the City Council considered TxDOT's request to <br />remove the signal and received testimony from the Chief of Police and City Engineer regarding the <br />number of traffic accidents at the intersection and the cost of updating the traffic signal equipment; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the ordinance proposing the removal of the traffic signal of the intersection of <br />North Main and Provine was tabled for further consideration; and, <br />WHEREAS, due to the number of traffic accidents that have occurred at this intersection <br />within the last 12 months and concerns about the safety of pedestrians and vehicles crossing at this <br />intersection, the City Council decided to retain the traffic signal at North Main and Provine Streets; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the City <br />of Paris to request that TxDOT continue to operate and maintain the signal light at N. Main Street <br />and Provine Street. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things <br />approved. <br />Section 2. That the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is hereby urged and <br />requested to continue to operate and maintain the signal light N. Main Street (BU271) and Provine <br />Street to protect the safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Paris and Lamar County, Texas. <br />Section 3. That the City Clerk shall mail a copy of this resolution to TxDOT as <br />confirmation that the City of Paris does not want the signal light removed. <br />
