DRAFT <br />attorney\reswork\current\Revising Sec 26-6(a)(2) Assignment pay Ord <br />February 26, 2008 <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS, REVISING SECTION 26-6(a)(2) TO ARTICLE I, CHAPTER 26 OF <br />THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, ENTITLED ASSIGNMENT PAY; <br />CHANGING THE RATE OF ASSIGNMENT PAY FOR FIELD TRAINING <br />OFFICERS WITHIN THE PARIS POLICE DEPARTMENT TO COINCIDE <br />WITH 12 HOUR WORK DAYS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Sections 143.041-143.043 of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government <br />Code, the Civil Service Act, authorizes municipalities covered by said Act to compensate firefighters <br />and police officers with assignment pay, in addition to their base pay, when performing the duties <br />and responsibilities of the position; and, <br />WHEREAS, when the City Council of the City of Paris originally adopted assignment pay <br />for police field training officers and crime prevention officers, as set forth in Sec. 26-6 of the Code <br />of Ordinances, police officers were working eight hour shifts; and, <br />WHEREAS, police officers for the City of Paris now work four twelve-hour shifts per week <br />so the assignment pay must be recalculated from $5.00 per day to $46.153 bi-weekly; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris desires to implement said change in the <br />rate of pay to coincide with 12 hour work days for field training officers within the Paris Police <br />Department. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things <br />approved. <br />Section 2. That Section 26-6(a)(2) of Article I of Chapter 26 of the Code of Ordinances of <br />the City of Paris, Texas, entitled "Assignment pay," shall be and is hereby amended to read as <br />follows: <br />"Sec. 26-6.
