CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET
Submittal Date: Originating Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.:
April 17, 2008 Airport Advisory Board Lisa A. Wright, Airport Director 7
Council Date:
April 28, 2008
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Move to authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary agreements, leases,
contracts, or other documents necessary to secure performers for the Cox Field Fly-In and
Air Show to beheld in September.
POLICY ISSUE(S~:
Signatory authority
BACKGROUND:
Last September, the City of Paris conducted the second annual Cox Field Fly-In. The
main reason this event was established three years ago was to invite the public to Cox
Field and expose them to this most valuable asset. Last year's event was a huge success
and included military displays, glider rides, radio-controlled plane demonstrations,
antique automobile displays, and numerous activities for kids and adults alike. We
estimate the turnout over the course of the half day event was over 3,000 people, not
including the nearly one hundred pilots who flew in to the airport. The Airport Advisory
Board's goal is to expand this event each year, and possible activities planned for this
year so far include aerobatics and military fly-overs. To accomplish this goal, the Board
appointed a subcommittee who began making contact with potential performers, and
tentative terms have been reached, pending funding commitments and it is appropriate
that agreements be executed to secure the acts.
BOARD~COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
At its meeting on April 17, 2008, the Airport Advisory Board recommended that the City Manager seek
authority from the City Council to sign any and all documents necessary to book acts for the Air Show
portion of this year's annual Fly-In in order to secure such acts in time to begin organizing the remainder
of the show.
EXHIBITS:
None.
ACTION: BUDGET INFO:
^ Financial Report ®Minute Order Expense $14,000.00
^ Department Report ^ Resolution Budgeted Amt. $2,000.00
^ Presentation ^ Ordinance YTD Actual $
^ Public Hearing ^ Other Acct.
