POLICY ISSUE~S~: Appointments to boards, commissions and committees. BACKGROUND: On February 11, 2008, Council adopted new policies and procedures for standing boards, commissions, and committees. Since that time staff has promoted the new policies and solicited applications through Council Members, the city website, committee meetings, civic club presentations, radio ads, and radio interviews. As a reminder, the new process will synchronize all appointments to one date (as opposed to the old process of several times a year). Consequently, Council will need to make appointments for two one-year terms, two two-year terms, and three, three-year terms in order to get the cycle started (see "Transition" section of the accompanying policies and procedures document). This is a discussion item to apprise Council of the status of the applications and allow you to see where the need for more applicants might lie.
