CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET <br />Submittal Date: Originating Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.: <br />4/22/08 City Manager Kevin Carruth 15 <br />Council Date: <br />4/24/08 <br />RECOMMENDED MOTION: <br />Not an action item. <br />POLICY ISSUE~S~: <br />Appointments to boards, commissions and committees. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On February 11, 2008, Council adopted new policies and procedures for standing boards, <br />commissions, and committees. Since that time staff has promoted the new policies and <br />solicited applications through Council Members, the city website, committee meetings, civic <br />club presentations, radio ads, and radio interviews. As a reminder, the new process will <br />synchronize all appointments to one date (as opposed to the old process of several times a <br />year). Consequently, Council will need to make appointments for two one-year terms, two <br />two-year terms, and three, three-year terms in order to get the cycle started (see "Transition" <br />section of the accompanying policies and procedures document). This is a discussion item <br />to apprise Council of the status of the applications and allow you to see where the need for <br />more applicants might lie.
