POLICY ISSUE(S~: Council objective; Nuisance abatement BACKGROUND: At its meeting on Monday, February 1 1, 2008, the City Council requested that staff have requests for proposals prepared for the demolition of a building at Casa Bonita. In order to ensure the City's liability is kept to a minimum, the Director of Community Development contacted Brady Environmental Services, Inc. and requested a quote for the preparation of environmental requirements to include in requests for proposals that will ensure any bidders comply with State and Federal laws pertaining to the demolition of buildings containing asbestos. On March 31, 2008, the environmental requirements were provided to the City by Brady at a cost of $1,020.00, and the Director of Community Development has modified the demolition packet to include those requirements and has also selected four (4) structures at the Casa Bonita complex which maybe considered by the City Council for demolition after bids have been received. Advertisements for bids will be placed in The Paris News on May 4 and 11. Bids will opened on June 3 and presented to the City Council on June 9 (dates are tentative).
