RESOLUTION NO. 2008-035 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />APPROVING THE EXECUTION OF AN APPLICATION FOR A TEXAS PARKS & <br />WILDLIFE RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT FOR EXTENDING THE TRAIL DE <br />PARIS .29 MILES FROM ITS WEST END AT 12TH ST. SE TO 8T" ST SE; <br />AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS; ACCEPTING SAID GRANT <br />AWARD UPON NOTICE THEREOF; AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF ANY <br />AND ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR ACCEPTANCE AND <br />IMPLEMENTATION OF SAID GRANT UPON NOTICE THEREOF; MAKING <br />OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department provides funding for Recreational <br />Trails grants; and, <br />WHEREAS, these grant funds will enable the extension of Trail de Paris.29 miles from <br />its west end at 12th St. SE to 8th St. SE; and, <br />WHEREAS, the scope of work will include placement and refurbishment of an iron truss <br />bridge donated by the Lamar County Historical Commission, clearing of brush, removal of 400 <br />feet of rails and ties, construction of a 12-foot wide asphalt trail, plus miscellaneous items such <br />as benches, bike racks, and signage; and, <br />WHEREAS, Keep Paris Beautiful, Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Lamar <br />County Power Partners will each contribute $5,000 towards the local match requirement of <br />$30,000 and the City will be responsible for the balance of in kind services with no cash match <br />for the City of Paris; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris deems it in the best interest of the <br />citizens of the City of Paris to make application to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for a <br />Texas Parks and Wildlife Recreational Trails Grant in the amount of $150,000.00 for the <br />extension of the Trails de Paris Project, in the form attached hereto as Exhibit A, and the same <br />should be approved. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br />Section 2. That the application made to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for a <br />National Recreational Trails Grant in the amount of $150,000, to extend the Trails de Paris <br />Project .29 miles from its west end at 12th St. SE to 8th St. SE, with the City of Paris being <br />responsible for $10,000 of in kind services in accordance with the terms and conditions <br />described in Exhibit A attached hereto be, and the same is hereby approved. <br />
