~
Apri19, 2008
Mayor Jessie Freelen
City of Paris
Dear Mayor Freelen,
On behalf of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, I would like to express our
support for the proposed westward extension of the Trail de Paris (the Trail) from 12th Street
S.E. to 8th Street S.E. This new section of the Trail will be close to the southern boundary of the
C1lurch Sheet Historic District and will serve as a gateway for access to both this and the
Downtown Historic District and their many recreation, education, and government sites. _
The expansion of the Trail will finally link the pedestrian community to such
destinations as Bywaters Park where the summer Municipal Band concerts are held, the historic
Wise House and nearby ballfields, Heritage J.'ark and the adjacent Lamar County Chamber of .
Commerce, the Chisum Monument burial site, Culbertson Fountain in the center of the Main
Street District, Sam Bell Maxey Museum, Market Square where local farmers sell fresh produce,
Main Street art galleries, museums, and shopping, City Hall, the Lamar County Courthouse, the
Paris Public Library, the Lamar County Health Department, and nearby Justiss School.
Since its inception, the Trail de Paris has been a major asset to our community, and we .
support any activity that goes toward enhancing, improving, or extending this important
recreation asset. We strongly encourage the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recreational
Trails coiTUnittee to give every consideration to funding this project.
The Lamar County Chamber of Commerce has pledged $5000 towards the efforts of this
project that will continue to enrich the quality of life in our county.
Best Rega
Pete Kam
President,
cc: Kevin Carruth
1125 Bonham St. • Paris, TX 75460 • 903. 784.2501 • Fax 903.784.2503 •
www. oarisCexas. com • chamber@paristexas. com
