IS ~ \ L
. .a.:' .
STA'I'E OF TEXAS
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
The Lone Star State has one of the nadon's largest motorcycle riding populations.
Our beautifW roadways and yearlong riding season contribute to motorcycling as a popular
form of recreation and trazâ–şsportation for many Texans.
Riding a motorcycle safely requires the use of specific mental and physical skills.
Riding without proper motorcycle safety lrnowledge can be a recipe for disaster. Riders
attain the lrnowledge and skills by attending professionally taught motorcycle operator
training courses, personal experience, sound judgment and the lnowledge of traffic laws and
licensing requirements.
In an effort to avoid or minimize motorcycle-related crashes, basic and advanced
motorcycle operator training courses are offered throughout the state. With the experience
offered through courses, the correct protective equipment and aware motorists, the roadways
will be a safer place for those who ride.
Promoting motorcycle safety and motorist awareness of motorcycles is vital to the
lives of many. The Texas Depariment of Public Safety (DPS) has provided tools to make
Texan's motorcycling experience safe. Through informative literature and by providing
information through the Motorcycle Safety UniYs web page (www.txdps.state.tx.us/msb),
DPS is working to increase both safety and awareness.
I encourage all Texas motorists to do everything they can to ensure the safety of
motorcyclists and other users of all Texas roadways. The steps we take today can make a
posirive difference for the future.
Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby prcelaim May 2008,
Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month
in Texas, and urge the appropriate
recognition whereof.
In official recognition whereof,
I hereby affix my signature tivs the
1 st day of April, 2008.
v00,emor of Texas
00-
- UU[12 b
