CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />GOALS AND OBJECTIVES <br />GoAL 1. Work with interested groups and individuals to educate community leaders, <br />residents, and properry owners about historic preservation. <br />• Educate the community about the benefits of historic preservation and the <br />Historic Preservation Ordinance. <br />• Notify all affected property owners about the benefits and requirements of <br />the Historic Preservation Ordinance. <br />• Educate the real estate community about the positive benefits of the Historic <br />Preservation Ordinance. <br />• Work to generate publicity for Paris's historic preservation program through <br />meetings, training, and other public venues, such as video on local cable <br />access television. <br />• Work with school groups to educate young people about community <br />heritage. <br />• Develop and present historic preservation achievement awards. <br />• Develop a local landmark plaque program. <br />GoAL 2. Protect Paris's historic resources. <br />Help secure appropriate National Register nomination for eligible properties. <br />Continue to identify and locally designate eligible historic districts and <br />landmarks. <br />Engage in periodic review and updating of the Paris Historic Resources <br />Survey. <br />GoAi, 3. Continue to improve the Historic Preservation Commission and City preservation <br />program's processes and programs to more effectively preserve Paris's historic <br />character and resources. <br />• Offer training and establish communication and coordination among City <br />departments and the Historic Preservation Commission. <br />• Identify training opportunities for and participation of Historic Preservation <br />Commission members and staf£ <br />• Develop Design Guidelines. <br />• Develop and adopt written procedures for enforcement of the Historic <br />Preservation Ordinance. <br />GoAL 4. Promote the positive economic benefits of historic preservation and the program's <br />contribution to local and regional economic development. <br />Work with business owners and organizations to promote heritage tourism <br />in Paris. <br />Document and publicize the financial contribution of historic preservation <br />and heritage tourism to the local and regional economy. <br />Seek and adopt financial incentive policies and programs that advance <br />historic preservation investment while educating property owners about <br />existing and contemplated incentive opportunities. <br />- UUUU4G <br />
