POLICY ISSUE(S): Ordinance BACKGROUND: Beginning May 14, 2007, the City Council first imposed a moratorium on the issuance of permits for the construction, reconstruction, and placement of billboards, electronic signs, and off-premises signs within the city limits of Paris. The moratorium will expire on July 20, 2008. The City Council directed the Code Enforcement Task Force to study and consider proposed amendments to the Sign Ordinance including regulations applicable to billboard and off-premises signs. The Task Force has completed a comprehensive review of the entire ordinance and has recommended numerous revisions. A final document will be submitted to the City Council for its consideration on July 28; therefore, it is requested that the current moratorium be extended for thirty (30) days.
