Sign area shall include all lettering, wording, logos, <br />design, symbols, framing, roofing, and cabinets or modules. <br />Sky sign. Any sign or billboard supported or attached wholly or in part over or <br />above any wall, building or structure. <br />Temporary or portable sign. Any sign that is not permanently attached to the <br />ground or to a building, or that is not designed to be permanently attached to the <br />ground or building, including, but not limited to: torpedo signs, A-frame signs, <br />inflatable device signs, wind-driven signs, real estate signs, temporary directional <br />signs, promotional posters, banners, and political signs as herein defined. <br />Torpedo sign. Signs that are of the portable type that can be moved from location <br />to location, usually exhibiting flashing lights or changeable messages. <br />Vehicular sign. A sign that identifies a vehicle used for a particular business; <br />however, not when the primary use of the vehicle is that of a sign. <br />Wind device sign. A flag, banner, pennant, streamer, inflatable balloon, or similar <br />device made of cloth, canvas, plastic, or other similar flexible material, with or <br />without a frame or other supporting structure, fastened in such a manner as to <br />move upon being subject to pressure by wind or breeze and used as a temporary <br />sign. Texas and U.S. flags displayed on a flag pole shall not be considered wind <br />device signs. <br />Sec. 28-2. Weight of signs. <br />No sign that projects over public space shall have a greater weight than one <br />thousand five hundred (1,500) pounds. <br />Sec. 28-3. Construction of electric signs. <br />All electric signs must comply with section 11-112 of this Code of Ordinances. All <br />electric signs within the Central Area District shall have a structural framework of <br />iron, steel, or other metal substances of equal strength and the body and other <br />parts of such sign shall be of nonflammable material throughout. No threaded pipe <br />fittings will be permitted in any framework or standard for signs. The sign shall be <br />of such strength as may be approved by the building official with the advice of the <br />city engineer. <br />Sec. 28-4. Sign supports. <br />(a) All sign supports, brackets, guys, turnbuckles, bolts, anchors and fastenings <br />shall be figured strong enough to safely hold and support all loads and other <br />stresses which may come upon them. <br />Page 7 of 36 <br />M 000101 <br />
