<br />ORDINANCE NO. 2002-020

<br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
<br />PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN
<br />DISTRICTS 1, 2, AND 6 FOR THE MAY 4, 2002, GENERAL ELECTION
<br />ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMINING THAT NO ELECTIONS BE HELD
<br />IN DISTRICTS 1, 2, AND 6; DIRECTING THAT A COPY OF THIS
<br />ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES;
<br />DIRECTING THAT CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE
<br />UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS RELATED TO
<br />THE SUBJECT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
<br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN
<br />EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 8, 2002.

<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 11th day of
<br />February, 2002, in Resolution No. 2002-029, order the regular municipal election for the City of
<br />Paris to be held on the 4th day of May, 2002, by the qualified voters in Districts 1, 2, 3, and 6
<br />of the City of Paris; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the Assistant City Clerk, Thomas E. Haynes, on behalf of the City Clerk,
<br />being the authority responsible for having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that
<br />the candidates for Districts 1, 2, and 6 are unopposed for election to office, with no write-in
<br />candidates being declared, and that there are no propositions to appear on the ballot; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it
<br />is deemed appropriate that the candidates for Districts 1, 2, and 6 be declared elected to office and
<br />that no election be held in those Districts; NOW, THEREFORE,

<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
<br />TEXAS:

<br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all
<br />things approved.
<br />
<br />Section 2. That, for the May 4,2002, general election of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas,
<br />the candidate for District 1, Joe McCarthy; for District 2, Willie J. Weekly, Sr.; and for District
<br />6, Francine Neeley, having been certified by the Assistant City Clerk as being unopposed for
<br />election to office, with no write-in candidates being declared, be, and they are hereby, declared
<br />elected to office, which terms shall begin on May 9, 2002.
<br />
<br />Section 3. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and the
<br />findings in the preamble to this ordinance, and because there are no propositions to appear on the
<br />ballot, it is hereby determined and directed that on May 4,2002, no municipal elections shall be
<br />held in Council Districts 1, 2, and 6.
