Wright, Director of <br />Council Date: <br />Community Development <br />8. <br />8/25/08 <br />RECOMMENDED MOTION: <br />Report on the status of the demolition of the Casa Bonita Apartment Complex. <br />POLICY ISSUE(S): <br />Council objective; Nuisance abatement <br />BACKGROUND: <br />BID PACKET ONE: At its meeting on Monday, February 11, 2008, the City Council <br />requested that staff prepare requests for proposals for the demolition of a building at Casa <br />Bonita. Advertisements for bids were placed in The Paris News on June 1 and 8, and <br />bids were opened on July 8. On July 14, 2008, the City Council awarded the bid to <br />Cherry Demolition in the amount of $70,275.00, which includes demolition of all four <br />buildings, with wetting of debris being performed by the bidder. Cherry Demolition has <br />returned the contracts and anticipates beginning demolition on September 1 with <br />completion of the project taking less than one week, weather permitting. <br />BID PACKET TWO: At its meeting on Monday, July 14, 2008, the City Council <br />directed that staff prepare requests for proposals for demolition of the remaining eighteen <br />(18) buildings in the Casa Bonita Complex. Ads went into the Paris News on July 20 and <br />27. At least two companies have been to Paris to walk the site. Bids will be opened on <br />August 19 at 2:00, and bids will be awarded on September 8.
