RESOLUTION NO. 2008-079 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS MASTER <br />PLAN TO CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN TO BE <br />ABLE TO WALK OR RIDE BIKES TO AND FROM SCHOOLS IN THE <br />PARIS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT; MAKING OTHER <br />FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, in an effort to create a safe environment for children to be able to walk or <br />ride bikes to and from school the Paris Independent School District, Friends of the Trail and <br />Hayter Engineering are creating a Master Plan; and, <br />WHEREAS, the creation of this Master Plan makes our community eligible to apply for <br />a$750,000 non-matching grant to construct infrastructure such as sidewalks, cross walks, signs <br />and bike lanes; and, <br />WHEREAS, the majority of infrastructure will be constructed on City right-of-ways in <br />the areas of Crockett Middle School and Justiss Elementary School; and, <br />WHEREAS, on September 29, 2008 a public hearing was held to receive input and <br />comments from the citizens of Paris on the proposed Safe Routes to Schools Master Plan; and, <br />WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interests of the citizens of the city of Paris that <br />the Safe Routes to Schools Master Plan receive the support and assistance of the City of Paris in <br />this endeavor and the same should be approved. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br />Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Paris supports the Safe Routes to <br />Schools Master Plan project to help create a safe and healthy environment for children to walk <br />and ride bikes to and from their respective schools in the City of Paris. <br />Section 3. That the City of Paris right-of-ways will be utilized as needed for the <br />construction of sidewalks, cross walks, signs and bike lanes included in the Safe Routes to <br />Schools Master Plan. <br />Section 4. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage. <br />
