<br />ORDINANCE NO. 2001-024 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE IN <br />DISTRICT 5 FOR THE MAY 5, 2001, GENERAL ELECTION ELECTED <br />TO OFFICE; DETERMINING THAT NO ELECTION BE HELD IN <br />DISTRICT 5; DIRECTING THAT A COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE BE <br />POSTED AT APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING THAT <br />CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED <br />CANDIDATE; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS RELATED TO THE <br />SUBJECT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 9, 2001. <br /> <br />WHEREAS. the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 12th day of <br />February, 2001, in Resolution No. 2001-009, order the regular municipal election for the City of <br />Paris to he held on the 5th day of May, 2001, by the qualified voters in Districts 4,5, and 7 of <br />the City of Paris; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham, being the authority responsible for <br />having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that the candidate for District 5 is <br />unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that there are no <br />propositions to appear on the ballot; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it <br />is deemed appropriate that the candidate for District 5 be declared elected to office and that no <br />election be held in that District; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br /> <br />Section 2. That, for the May 5, 2001, general election, the candidate for District 5, John <br />F. Bell, having been certified by the City Clerk as being unopposed for election to office with no <br />write-in candidates being declared, be, and he is hereby, declared elected to office, which term <br />shall begin on May 10,2001. <br /> <br />Section 3. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and <br />because there are no propositions to appear on the ballot, it is hereby determined that no election <br />be held in District 5. <br />
