ORDINANCE NO. 2001-004 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING A MAXIMUM, REASONABLE RATE OF SPEED ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF PARIS; PROVIDING FOR A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200.00; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF MARCH 1, 2001. WHEREAS, the City of Paris Traffic Commission is charged with the responsibility to study and evaluate reasonable rates of speed on City streets and roadways; and, WHEREAS, the Traffic Commission, at its regular meeting of February 6,2001, considered and evaluated various suggestions and requests for the adjustment of maximum permissible speeds at various locations throughout the city, and having done so found and determined that the adjustment of maximum permissible speeds at certain locations and on certain streets and roadways in the city is necessary to protect the health and safety and is in the best interests of the citizens of the city of Paris, and have so recommended speed adjustments to the City Council of the City of Paris; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the following maximum, reasonable and prudent rates of speed shall be established on those portions of the street hereinafter described: On East Price Street, from the west curb line of 22nd Street N.E., east to the west curb line of 25th Street N.E., a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour at all times. Section 3. That any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $200.00. Section 4. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed. Section 5. That this ordinance shall become effective on March 1,2001.
